Privacy Policy

Your archives never leave your device.

Opening, viewing the files inside and extracting all happen on device.

Archives and the files inside

The app only reads archives you hand to it with Open or Share from another app, or pick in the file picker. Archives and the documents and photos inside are never sent to a server and never used for ads.

Passwords

The password of a protected archive is kept only in memory while that archive is open and is never saved. You are asked again after closing the file or reopening the app.

Extracted files

Extract all creates a new folder named after the archive inside Downloads and extracts there; Extract to another folder uses the folder you pick. The app never deletes or moves extracted files.

What stays on your device

Copies extracted to preview a file are kept in the app cache and deleted the next time the app opens after 24 hours (oldest first above 300 MB in total). PDF and zip files the app creates are kept in the app cache so you can save or share them, oldest first deleted above 200 MB in total. The app cannot delete anything while it is closed, which is why we put it this way. The app also stores, on your device only, the names and locations of archives you opened with the file picker (the recent list), the last folder you extracted to, and the dates and number of full-screen ads shown. This information is excluded from backups.

Accounts

There are no accounts. We do not collect your email or phone number, and there is no sign-in, sign-up or in-app purchase.

Advertising

This app is supported by ads. Google AdMob serves them, and in the process your advertising ID (AAID), IP address, device information, and ad-related app activity (such as how many ads you saw and whether you tapped one) are collected by and shared with Google. Your IP address can be used to estimate coarse location at the country level. Your archives and the files inside are never used for ads and are never transmitted. See policies.google.com/technologies/ads for details.

When ads appear

Opening an archive, browsing it, viewing files and extracting have no ads. When extracting finishes, a full-screen ad may appear once, and not again for a while. You watch one ad when you save or share a file the app created for you (PDF or zip), and we tell you before it starts. A small banner sits at the bottom of the start screen.

Opting out of personalized ads

In Android Settings → Privacy → Ads you can delete your advertising ID or turn off personalization. Ads will still appear, but they will not be personalized.

Permissions

Only internet access, used to fetch ads and send usage statistics. We do not request storage or All files access permissions. The app only reads archives you hand to it or pick, and only writes extracted files to Downloads or a folder you choose. No camera, contacts, location or microphone permissions either.

Usage statistics

To improve the app and place ads sensibly, we collect usage statistics with Google Analytics for Firebase. How often and how long you use the app, which features you use (for example opening a file, or watching an ad to save), ad impressions, device model, OS version, app version, country, language, a random identifier tied to each app install and the advertising ID are sent to Google. Archives, the files inside them and their names are never sent. We also use Firebase Remote Config to change ad settings without an app update, which sends the app version, OS version, country and language. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, nothing that identifies your device is stored unless you consent.

Third parties

Apart from Google AdMob and Google Analytics for Firebase (see Usage statistics) we use no other analytics or crash reporting, and no external service can see your archives.

Children

Unzip is not directed at children under 13. The app does not send your files anywhere, but when ads are shown Google AdMob collects an advertising ID, IP address, and device information. That is why this app is not built for children.

Deleting your data

Copies in the app cache are deleted as described above, and uninstalling removes the cache and the recent list. You can also remove items from the recent list one by one in the app. Extracted and saved files are in Downloads or wherever you chose, and you can delete them there. No copy remains on any server. You can delete your advertising ID yourself in Android Settings > Privacy > Ads.

There is nothing for us to delete

This app has no server holding your data. Copies on your device disappear when the app deletes them or you uninstall, and your advertising ID is held by Google, so we can neither look it up nor delete it. Rather than offer to delete data on your behalf, we have written down above how to remove it yourself. Questions: dev@indieway.xyz
