Privacy Policy
last updated: 2026-09-24
Your photo is used only on this device to show color drapes, and is deleted when your result is ready.
The app does not detect or analyze faces, and never sends your photo anywhere.
Your photo
We ask for your consent before using a photo. With consent, one photo you take or pick is kept as a reduced copy in the app cache and used to draw color drapes under your face. The app does not detect faces or extract features such as skin color. You choose which drape looks better, and the app only combines those choices into a score. The photo file is deleted as soon as your result is ready (it stays in memory for the preview until you leave the result or close the app); if the app closes before you finish, it is deleted the next time you open the app (within 24 hours at most). Photos are never sent to a server or used for ads or usage statistics. A camera original is deleted as soon as the copy is made. You can withdraw consent at any time under Use photos in the app settings.
Camera and photo permissions
The app does not ask for camera, photo or storage permissions. Photos are taken by your device's camera app, and the Android photo picker hands the app only the one photo you choose.
What stays on your device
When you get a result, the app records on your device the date and time, the method (photo and questions, questions only, or set by you), your closest and next closest tone, scores on three axes (warmth, lightness, clarity), which drapes you chose and your answer numbers. Photos and face images are not recorded. The app also stores your tone, the style guides you opened, whether you consented to photo use, and the dates and count of full-screen ads shown. Share cards are kept briefly in the app cache so you can save or share them, and are deleted the next time you open the app.
Share cards
A share card contains your tone name and palette. Your photo is included only if you turn on Include my photo, which is off by default. You choose where to share the card; the app never sends it anywhere itself.
Backup
So that your results follow you to a new device, result history (tones, scores, drape choices, answers and the source of a tone you set yourself, no photos) and settings are included in Android Auto Backup. Photos live only in the cache, which is not backed up. Backups are stored encrypted in your Google account and we cannot see them. You can turn this off in Android Settings > Google > Backup.
Accounts
There are no accounts. We never ask for an email address or phone number, and there is no sign-in or sign-up. There is no payment feature in the app.
Ads
This app is supported by ads served by Google AdMob. In the process, Google collects your advertising ID (AAID), IP address, device information, and ad-related usage (how often ads were shown or tapped). Your IP address may be used to estimate a rough, country-level location. Your photo and results are never used for ads or sent to Google. See Google's policy at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
When you see ads
No ads while you compare drapes or answer questions. A full-screen ad may appear once right before your result; it will not appear again for a while, and never when you set your tone yourself or reopen a past result. You watch one ad to open a tone's style guide for the first time and one to save or share a share card, and the button tells you before you tap it. A small banner sits at the bottom of the home, tone list and history screens.
Turning off personalized ads
In Android Settings > Privacy > Ads you can delete your advertising ID or turn off personalization. Ads will still appear, but they will not be personalized.
Permissions
The app uses the internet connection and the advertising ID, to load ads and send usage statistics. It does not ask for camera, photo, storage, contacts, location, or microphone access. When you save a share card, it writes only to the location you choose.
Usage statistics
To improve the app and place ads sensibly, we collect usage statistics with Google Analytics for Firebase: how often and how long the app is used, which features are used (for example, whether you used a photo or questions only, or watched an ad to open a guide), ad impressions, device model, OS version, app version, country and language, plus a random per-install identifier and your advertising ID. Photos and your resulting tone and scores are not sent. We also use Firebase Remote Config to change ad settings without an app update, which sends the app version, OS version, country and language. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, nothing that identifies your device is stored unless you consent.
Third parties
Apart from Google AdMob and Google Analytics for Firebase (see Usage statistics) we use no other analytics or crash reporting, and no external service can see your photos.
Children
Personal Color is not directed at children under 13. The app does not send your photo anywhere, but when ads are shown Google AdMob collects an advertising ID, IP address, and device information. That is why this app is not built for children.
Deleting your data
You can delete your result history in the app under Settings > Delete history, and uninstalling removes history, settings and cache. The app deletes photos itself once your result is ready. Copies in Auto Backup can be deleted in Android Settings > Google > Backup. Saved share cards are wherever you chose to save them, and you can delete them there. No copy remains on any server. You can delete your advertising ID yourself in Android Settings > Privacy > Ads.
There is nothing for us to delete
This app has no server holding your data. History on your device disappears when you delete it in the app or uninstall, and backups and your advertising ID are held by Google, so we can neither look them up nor delete them. Rather than offer to delete data on your behalf, we have written down above how to remove it yourself. Questions: dev@indieway.xyz
