Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-09-28
The JSON and XML files you open and your edits are processed and stored only on this device.
There is no sign-in, and file contents are never sent anywhere.
File contents stay on your device
Your JSON and XML files and edits are opened, edited and saved on this device only. They are not sent to a server or used for ads or usage statistics, and they are excluded from Android Auto Backup and device transfer.
Opening and saving files
The app opens only files you pick in the Android file picker or open from another app. Saving writes back to that file (overwrite) or to a new place you choose. The app does not use all-files storage permission and never deletes your files.
What stays on your device
To keep edits safe, the app keeps in its private storage: a copy of the opened file, a draft of unsaved edits (up to the last automatic save), a backup of the original taken just before saving and a record used to check the save, Recovery files kept when a save could not be confirmed, and the recent files list (file names and locations). Regular backups are removed after 7 days; Recovery files stay until you delete them. All of this stays on this device and is not included in Android Auto Backup.
Saving and sharing PDFs
When you save or share a PDF, you choose where it goes; the app does not send it anywhere itself. PDFs for sharing are kept briefly in the app cache.
Paste
The app reads the clipboard only when you tap Paste.
Account
There is no account. We do not ask for an email or phone number, and there is no sign-in, sign-up or in-app purchase.
Ads
This app is supported by ads. Google AdMob serves the ads, and in doing so Google collects your advertising ID (AAID), IP address, device information and ad-related app activity (such as ad views and taps). Your approximate location (country level) may be inferred from your IP address. File contents and file names are not used for ads and are not shared. Ads are limited to the Teen (T) rating. Google's policies apply (policies.google.com/technologies/ads).
When you see ads
There are no ads while you open, read, search, copy, edit or save a file. You watch one ad when you save or share a PDF, and the app tells you before you tap. If an ad cannot load or you choose not to wait, you continue without it. A small banner appears only at the bottom of the start screen, not on the screen where you view a file. There are no full-screen ads.
Turning off ad personalization
In Android Settings > Privacy > Ads you can delete your advertising ID or turn off personalization. Ads will still appear, but they will not be personalized.
Permissions
The app uses only internet access and the advertising ID, to load ads and send usage statistics. It does not ask for storage, camera, microphone, contacts, location or notification permissions.
Usage statistics
To improve the app and place ads well, we collect usage statistics with Google Analytics for Firebase: how often and how long the app is used, which features are used (for example whether a file was opened and its format and size range, whether search, editing or saving was used and how the save ended, and whether a PDF was made), whether ad notices were shown and ads watched, ad impressions, device model, OS version, app version, country and language, a random identifier per app installation, and the advertising ID. File names, locations and contents (keys and values) are never sent. We also use Firebase Remote Config to change ad settings without an app update, which sends app version, OS version, country and language. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, information that identifies the device is not stored unless you consent.
Third parties
Apart from Google AdMob and Google Analytics for Firebase (see Usage statistics) we use no other analytics or crash reporting, and no external service can see your files.
Children
JSON Viewer & Editor is not directed at children under 13, because Google AdMob collects an advertising ID, IP address and device information when ads are shown.
Deleting your data
You can delete Recovery files in the app's Recovery files screen. Uninstalling removes copies, drafts, backups, Recovery files and settings. JSON and PDF files you saved must be deleted where you saved them. We keep no copy on our servers. You can delete your advertising ID yourself in Android Settings > Privacy > Ads.
There is nothing for us to delete
This app has no server holding your data. Files and records on your device disappear when you delete them in the app or uninstall, and your advertising ID is held by Google, so we can neither look it up nor delete it. Questions: dev@indieway.xyz
